Calorie Counter by FatSecret – Count them calories

by DroidGeek on January 3, 2010

It’s the beginning of a New Year so that could only mean one thing, New Year’s resolutions. My personal goal this year is to lose about 10 pounds of fat so I’m gonna start by paying real close attention to what I put in my body.

Calorie Counter by FatSecret is an app that can give me the nutritional information I need to make the proper choices.

Calorie Counter Android Features:

  • Get calorie and nutritional info quickly
  • Scan barcodes for nutritional labels
  • Keep track of what you’re eating in a food diary
  • Keep track of burned calories in a exercise diary
  • Weight Chart
  • Keep track of your progress with the journal
  • Sync the Calorie Counter application with FatSecret.com

Download Calorie Counter by FatSecret for free from the Android Market.

By far the BEST app for counting calories, tracking your workouts and your bodyweight. A MUST HAVE!!!

Eddy February 11, 2010 at 3:15 pm

I entered a weight training workout but then realized that it allotted to much calorie burn so I entered a custom one. Problem is I can’t delete the old entry. Pls. help. Otherwise, great product!

One more thing.
I have a coffee entered for breakfast, 150 calories. It’s shown but calories are not added to the total for some reason.

Spent 30 minutes entering data just to lose it all during the sync process from phone to web. Support was of no help. Uninstalled.

Was hoping this would similar to “Loose It” for the iphone… but NOOOO!!! I want it to tell me how many calories I need to take in daily in order to loose weight and reach my goal!!! Programmer guys, please make this more personal and useful! I am at my wits end with the droid and the apps and closer to going back to the iphone!!!

Is this app not compatible with 2.1??? I had it on my Droid Eris 1.6, but when I upgraded to 2.1 I can’t find the app. Is there an ETA for when the app will be available on 2.1?? I NEED THIS APP!!! :)

Love the Calorie Counter. However, I upgraded the Droid and my entire food diary history disappeared. If I begin again, will I have to rebuild every time there’s an update?

In response to Shannon’s comment, this app does tell you how many calories you need to eat. You go through a little questionnaire that asks your current weight, age, lifestyle (sitting or standing all day) your weight loss/gain goals as far as time and weight. Then it tells you how many calories you should eat per day. You can track everything you eat. It has an extensive library of foods and restaurants and the calories associated with the menu items. Additionally, it will scan the barcode from the foods you are eating so that you don’t have to enter the data, you just scan it. You also track your daily exercise (calorie expenditure). There is a calendar that tells you whether you were up or down on each day. It also has a weight tracker with your starting weight, target weight and the graph of your weight changes. This app is working wonderfully for me!!

If I want to download the 1.12.0 version of calorie counter by fatsecret, how can I do that? I do not like the updated version and want my old version back. Barcode scan option availalbe?
Please advise

I updated and am now sad to see that it’s not calculating my points. Isn’t there any way to calculate that ratio without tying it to a diet?

MDRPEI May 10, 2010 at 1:49 pm

A few weeks ago, the version I had would calculate weight watchers points. Now when I click on the change columns menu, weight watchers points isn’t an available category anymore. Any help on how to view how many points?

In response to JJ’s April 21 post – where is that questionaire? I just started using CC and it asked me a few questions but gave me no answers (i.e. how many calories per day)

Leann June 7, 2010 at 7:59 am

If you “click” on the RDI at the bottom of the food diary (colored squares) it will give you the questionnaire and you can customize the amount of calories too.

The Bar Scanner is by far amazing.
I love it! Thank you!!

Is this application no longer supported? I have lost 10 pounds using it and I wanted to install it on my dad’s new droid, but can’t find it, even using the QR code.

Help! I am “stuck” on the daily food diary… How do I get back to the main menu of the app? I want to enter in exercise and see the other great features that app has to offer. How do I get back there?

Amanda July 16, 2010 at 7:42 am

Love it

Ashley July 21, 2010 at 7:01 am

I am also stuck on the Exercise Diary. It will not let me delete an entry and when i edit it, why will it only let me replace something else?

Dawn August 14, 2010 at 5:41 pm

Does anyone know if there is a way to enter your own food item that is not in the database and input the amount of calories in it so as to add to my daily intake calories?

Dan August 23, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Installed the app on a 2.1 Eris. Worked great for about a week and suddenly I lost all of my history this evening after working fine for me all this time. Can’t seem to find any way to retrieve my data….too much time spent to start over again.
Uninstalled.
PS: I did not update my phone or the software to cause this issue, and my micro-SD card is in fine shape with all of my other data perfectly intact.

Danielle August 26, 2010 at 12:13 pm

I have a question about the calorie expenditure in the exercise diary…I love how to app has the feature to log calories burned, but it doesn’t seem to take that into account for total daily calories. For example, I burned 200 calories doing Yoga, but the app did not apply the calories I burned to my daily calorie summary, and it actually said I went 11% over my daily intake. However, if you subtract the 200 I spent doing Yoga, I didn’t go over. Am I doing something wrong or do you just have to factor in the calories you burned yourself? I was thinking that I could always go back and subtract a fodo item, but that wouldn’t be as accurate as having the app do it automatically….

Also, on that note, the only thing I don’t like about this app is that the calorie target is the same every day. Wouldn’t it make more sense for it to adjust based on your activity level? That is what My Fitness Pal, but, sadly, that app has a lot of issues.

So, can anyone help me out with this calories in vs. out issue?

Danielle August 26, 2010 at 12:15 pm

Typo in the last post: “fodo item” was supposed to say “food item” :-)
