Google has been working on on a top secret project in their underground caves and now it’s available for everyone to enjoy, the app is called Google Goggles.

Google Goggles app allows your Android phone to do visual searches when you take a snapshots with your camera. Yay, no more typing! Take a picture and the app tries to recognize the image and brings back relevant information. The app can recognize books, businesses, contact info, artwork, landmarks, logos, places, and wine.

Google admits that the visual search technology is still very young and its not perfect. Try it out and tell us what you think.

Check out the demo video:

Your Eris is running 1.5. According to Google, 1.6 and up are supported.

It keeps crashing on my HTC Evo. Maybe it could have benefited from another couple of weeks in Beta. The only app I’ve had a problem with using. I’m surprised it’s an official Google app. My EVO has no special mods or apps from sources other than the market on the phone itself. So for now, all I can say is.. gee wiz the concept is great. Hope they get it working someday.
