Locale – Automate Droid Settings

by DroidGeek on November 20, 2009

Wouldn’t it be great if your Droid phone somehow knew you were at the library and it would automatically turn down the ringer so you wouldn’t annoy people trying to sleep. Or when you’re at the movie theaters your phone should know to shut itself off so you don’t annoy the people sitting around you. Locale is the application that will save you from being hated on.

Use Locale to set up different profiles so that whenever the phone goes into a profiled zone via GPS, Wi-FI, or certain networks the app will automatically change the ringer volume, vibrate, wallpaper etc.

Have the phone automatically change to vibrate when you’re at work, and have the ringer on high when you’re at home. This app simply automates the settings where you would normally have to manually change it yourself. You just set it and forget it!

Locale can be download for free from the Android Market.

Or scan the QR Code with your Android phone barcode scanner.

Locale rocks. I use it to put my phone on vibrate when I get to work and full volume when I get home. It usually uses the name of nearby wifi routers to figure out where you are, not the GPS, and it only pings every 10 minutes, so it really doesn’t use any juice.

For those who want to be super-green, there’s a Wake On Lan plug-in that you can use to wake your computer up from standby as an action to take when entering a condition!

Just uninstalled this. Too bad, it’s potentially a very useful app for me. When setting the time to start/stop a condition, it wouldn’t save it correctly. Put in 10:30 pm, save it and it goes to something like 10:47pm. Try again, and it goes to 10:06pm. Even the name wouldn’t save correctly. Hope they get the bugs worked out.
