by DroidGeek on December 23, 2009

NPR has released the Android version of their app recently, NPR fans can now jump for joy. Using NPR’s API the Android version is pretty similar to the iPhone version, the layout and menus are almost identical in both versions.

Backgrounding is a feature specifically for Android phones where the user can listen to an NPR show and use another application at the same time.

One of the biggest feature currently missing from the Android version is the ability to play live streams, this feature is coming Spring of 2010.

Android app features:

  • Listen and Read – read articles and browse through the app while listening to a program
  • Backgrounding – open other apps or browse online while listening to your NPR program
  • Extensive Topics section – a showcase of the top 10-20 news topic
  • NPR station listening choices – easily find and bookmark over 600 NPR stations ( live streaming coming spring of 2010)
  • Playlists – bookmark your favorite programs for play back later
