How would you like to use your laptop computer even when there’s no WiFi connection. Well you can, just as long as you have the Droid, decent cell connection, and the PdaNet app.
PdaNet is just a regular Android app with super magical powers that “tethers” the Android phone to your laptop allowing you to use your data connection from your phone to get online.
Tethering is pretty simple using PdaNet, I found some video tutorials on how to install and begin using the app. There are two ways you can do this, download the the installer on your computer, or download the app directly from the phone. The choice is yours.
How to tether the Motorola Droid on the computer. This method requires you to download and run the installer directly on your computer.
How to tether the Motorola Droid directly from the phone. With this method you download the app and the included installer files onto your Droid.
Download the free edition of PdaNet from the Android Market.

In regards to the person who got the $171 data charge.
The unlimited data plan applies to your phone. That is it.
You have unlimited data on the 3g network, to use with your phone.
Now, most people don’t wind up using huge amounts of data on their phone. But for those that do, Verizon may just decide to drop you.
If you don’t have the 3g mobile hotspot plan they will see the potentially large amounts of data from browsing or upload/downloading things on say, a laptop via PDAnet, or what have you. These amounts, if they are abnormally high for a phone, they might try to track it, and charge you extra if they can (somehow) confirm you were using your data for another device.
If you have the 3g mobile hotspot, the other devices connected via that. In the 3g mobile hotspot plan, it is essentially an entirely different plan from your unlimited data plan for your PHONE. It is clearly listed for the hotspot, that you may utilize 5 gb per month. It is NOT unlimited, and they do not tell you it is unlimited.
Let me clarify: Unlimited Data Plan for Smartphone $29.99/month for UNLIMITED data on your phone
3g mobile hotspot $19.99/month for 5 gb data upload or download per month, for whatever devices other than your phone.
As far as a warning, they ought to, but that’s like an energy company warning you that you’ve been using a lot of gas or electricity. They don’t give a crap, and they don’t have to. Especially when they know you’ll probably stay with them anyway because they have you in a contract, most likely.
BTW, for your own benefit. Verizon has released an app “My Verizon Mobile” that can track your usage, usually within a 24 hour timeframe. So you don’t have to go through the struggle of going to a website and putting in login information you rarely use. You can just click on the app (with 3g enabled), it’ll pop up a screen with your minutes, texts, and data usage. And you can look at those details a bit closer if you choose.
When I bought my HTC Incredible the Verizon salesperson told me about the PDANet. She said that there was a 2 week free-trial and then you pay a one time fee of $35. and that is it, but only if you have the unlimited data package. This was in Aug/2010.
I just purchased a google tablet pc. Does this work for that as well because it doesn’t use windows. In fact it is made synonymous to the g1
im using pdanet through my motorola droid 1, will they try to charge me even though i got unlimited plan?
I have pda connect, paid for full, and used tethering . My laptop needed a update well since I did it wont let me do anything. How do I get it all to work again? I’m not the smarest with all this . What do I do? Debugging is on pda enabled and nothing, laptop doesn’t even recognize usb connected. I have Droid one and newer hp laptop.! This suck help me if you can, thanks
if you root your droid using superoneclick and the internet version of pda.net you will never have to worry about debugging again cuz you can use your rooted phone as a hospot with wireless tethers from the market……….works great….I have the moto droid 1
Does anyone know if I can make pdanet work with a 16 bit laptop and windows xp? has anyone done it?

Ok so here’s my beef on Verizon…i live out in the country,so verizon is my only source for internet, period!
My wife and i both have smart phones with unlimited data plans ($30 each) but yet Verizon seems to think its ok to charge me an extra $69.99/month for a (supposedly unlimited) internet tethering fee to my computer!!! which is actually 5 gigs/month! And on top of that,we can only connect one phone to our computer with this tethering plan. So,me being a contractor, I work out of state alot, and when im out of state my wife has no way to connect to the internet, unless i want to pay another $69.99/month for a tether plan for my wifes phone!!!! REALLY VERIZON???!!??! so lets figure that up…..hmmm im paying $200/month for shitty slow internet!!! How the hell can verizon get away with scamming people like this??? ive been a verizon customer for over 10 years and have paid over 20 grand in phone bills and this is how i get treated??!!! STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!
can someone help me here?, I have a home PC with internet access but travel quite a lot, I have a sony ericson x10 and a samsung n250 netbook so I would like to use pdanet for internet from my phone to netbook..but how do i go about this? I have downloaded the file on my PC but can only install on my PC..could someone give me step by step instructions as I am a bit daft? cheers.
