Talk to Me – Android Translator

Talk to Me app for Android is a real-time-speech-translator. Why waste time learning another language when you can just let your Droid speak the language for you. Say something in English and the application will translate and speak it back to you in any language of your choice. You won’t find every single language in this application but there are a few to choose from like Italian, Spanish, German and a few other ones.

If you’re looking for an app to show off on your Motorola Droid then give Talk to Me a try, it’s pretty impressive.

Download this app for free from the Android Market.

I just picked up my Droid, what an amazing device. I love it!

Dan December 7, 2009 at 2:53 pm

I can’t find this app in the market. Was it taken down?

Flaviu December 11, 2009 at 6:51 am

Application is still in the Market but you need Android 1.6 in order to see it in the Market

Don December 22, 2009 at 6:58 am

I have a Samsung Moment which I believe has Android 1.6, but I cannot find Talk To Me in the Market either.

efrain December 27, 2009 at 3:15 pm

I have the Motorola Cliq. I can’t seem to find the app either.

Droid needer January 7, 2010 at 4:49 pm

Hello
DO you have Chinese version of the Talk to me.
That would be a big help.

Flaviu January 14, 2010 at 4:24 pm

Version 1.1.3 (currently on the android market) supports UI in Chinese both traditional and simplified. Just switch your phone language to Chinese and it should work.

I have the motorola droid. The application is interfering with the fetching of my emails. Any suggestions or has anyone else encountered this problem?

B February 21, 2010 at 5:48 pm

Is talk to me compatible with the motorola cliq? ive been trying to install it with no success.

Rodan March 3, 2010 at 8:57 pm

Just install Talk to Me on my Milestone and when i press mic to speak i get “Missing feature” error.
( It seems that Speech Recognizer is not available on your Android device)
Typing works good but i need that speech part working.
Voice Dialer in the phone works fine.
Ne1 got any idea what is a problem.
Thanks for any info.

Flaviu March 30, 2010 at 9:46 pm

I’ve bought a Milestone myself and you are right… voice recognition didn’t work out of the box. Actually the Android version on it didn’t included Voice Search. The fix for this is to manually install the Voice Search application. I googled it and I found it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OSSG020W This should do it.

NoJ March 31, 2010 at 12:00 am

Thanks Flavius, now the speech to text features do work on the droid/milestone

Big Bob April 21, 2010 at 9:38 pm

It actually can’t find it through the QR code either. Atleast on mine.

manpreet April 23, 2010 at 12:24 pm

Does this application requires 3g Network?

manpreet April 23, 2010 at 1:42 pm

How I can it really useful, when I really needs this i won’t have 3g network. can it be stored on the phone?

Marcus April 25, 2010 at 3:41 pm

This is the best app ever. I love it. I was traveling and I went to the F1 race and asked for an autograph from a driver in German – with my droid! He thought it was so funny, he gave me a free signed shirt too! WTG Droid!

Can’t find it on the Android market at all using my Samsung Moment. VERY disappointed as it seemed like an app that would really help me out as an EMT. I come across a lot of patients who only speak Spanish and this would have eased our communication and increased patient care. I really hope this works soon!

Ed May 22, 2010 at 7:14 pm

I just found this application at androlib.com. Unfortunately, according to the description, it only translates from English into another language. That’s not terribly useful. If I use it to translate a question in English to French, what do I do when the person answers back in French? I haven’t got my Droid phone yet, so I can’t test it.

john May 23, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Can anyone help? Wanted to install Talk To Me app on Cliq, and although both Brothersoft and Flaviu site claim you can- I spent gobs of time trying to and as of yet haven’t been able to.

no puedo bajar en mi cel phone htc touch pro sprint es samsung necesito ayuda como poder hacerlo gracias

Paul June 10, 2010 at 11:32 am

@ Ed: Hit the SWAP button, and have them speak their language into it. It will then translate back to English.

jeremy June 14, 2010 at 6:07 pm

i cant find talk to me in my droid market. i have a samsung moment.

jazziee June 16, 2010 at 1:34 pm

How do you download it?

Gradow July 7, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Hi All Guys!! who can’t get this app download??
you must find “barcide scanner” from your phone market download nad istall it! then have you capture the QR code, automatic download =) enjoy!!

Olle Palme July 27, 2010 at 3:19 am

For all you smart asses who say “well just search the market, duh?”
Guess what, the market is region coded. It’s not there for me (not in Sweden, I’m guessing not any non-US region)
Installing manually from the site gets TEXT translation working but SPEECH RECOGNITION is a no go.

I’ve tried all TTS libs out there, it doesn’t get speech recognition.
text-to-speech works but speech-to-text doesn’t

Why would Google limit this to the US?!

Is there a Japanese language feature for this app?

I hope to use this for my phone.

I WAS SERIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT BUYING AN ANDROID PHONE JUST SO I COULD DOWNLOAD “TALK TO ME” FOR ENGLISH TO SPANISH VOICE TRANSLATION, BUT FROM ALL OF THE ABOVE NEGATIVE COMMENTS I CONCEIVE THAT SELLER DOES NOT MAKE IT VERY USER FRIENDLY. UNLESS SOMEONE CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE I WON’T BE BUYING AN ANDROID! ALSO, I WAS IN MY LOCAL AT&T STORE THE OTHER DAY (ZIP CODE 75032) ASKING ABOUT ANDROIDS AND ENGLISH TO SPANISH TRANSLATION APPS – THE SALES CLERK WAS LESS THAN HELPFUL – I WAS THE ONLY CUSTOMER IN THE STORE YET THE SALESCLERK SEEMED IN A BIG HURRY TO GET ME OUT THE DOOR. I USUALLY GO TO RADIO SHACK FOR MY CELL PHONE NEEDS AND I WILL CONTINUE TO GO THERE – THEY ARE ALWAYS VERY HELPFUL.

OnTranslator – my favorite translation tool. InLine translation in any web browser or a program.

JHS April 19, 2011 at 7:40 am

I thought the same as above. The only way I found it was to type “voice translator” into the search box in the android market, it’s now known as Talk To Me Cloud. I have an HTC Aria with 3G. Seems to work for me just as advertised.

Charles H. May 6, 2011 at 1:50 pm

I have installed “Talk to Me Classic” on my Droid X, version 2.2. It does text to speech translations nicely. I wanted to exspand the languages. I have bought the SVOX Mandarin, SVOX Korean and the SVOX English. I installed the TTS engine. Is there a prescribed order to make the Droid X function properly; or this phone is not able to handles this capablity.
Any and all sugestion will be greatly appreciated. ch

SomeDude July 25, 2011 at 8:15 pm

No offense PAT but why would we want to convince you to buy a phone? Because the only people that care are Android and they’ve already got MILLIONS of people. 1 more isn’t MUCH of a difference considering they have the best apps for free.

Mississippi Blackoak August 2, 2011 at 8:34 pm

I will be traveling to China in September, at present I have a Blackberry, the droid seems like what I need to help me with the translation, is this the way to go..?

AnonThrasher September 2, 2011 at 6:44 am

@Mississippi Blackoak,
I was in your position not two weeks ago. My Blackberry had been giving me problems since a week after I got it, over a year ago.
Finally, it just went haywire and would mute out of nowhere and dial people when it was just sitting on the table. It would act as if I had clicked when all I was doing was scrolling. At any rate, I got the Driod 2 Global and I couldn’t be happier. There have been zero problems in almost three weeks and I have multiple friends that have had no problems with their Driods. Which is in contrast with my friends and family that have owned a Blackberry, almost everyone I know who has had a Blackberry device has immediately gotten rid of it or waited until it died out on them and moved over to Androids. I would advise you to do so as well. The market has tons of apps and the freeware isn’t too bad. I have this translator, and while I’m disappointed that I have to scrounge up some change to be able to translate to Japanese, I can deal with it. I think you would be quite happy with the decision to purchase an Android phone. I know I was.

brian September 2, 2011 at 6:44 pm

I want to know how to text Spanish texts on my droid x?

Sandee September 11, 2011 at 2:20 pm

I tried to use this for German but it says that it is not a voice that I can use but i can pay for it. I thought according to the above that it was free. Disappointed I wanted to talk to my m-i-l in her language.

Donna Hill September 22, 2011 at 3:32 pm

I am looking for a translator that when you speak in english it says it back. I need one for French and one for Scots-Gaelic. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Aj Vesce September 29, 2011 at 1:18 pm

Just got a StraightTalk Droid Precadence. Looked up Talk to Me Cloud in the app market. 2 minutes later I’m amazed!!! I work with people who speak Japanese, Russian, Ukranian, Spanish, and Chinese. Voice recog works beautifully and the text function combined with Swype is seamless beauty. Amazing APP! A must have for world travelers or people in ethnically diverse areas.
